Match report New captain Krishan Dilipkumar won the toss and elected to bat on what initially seemed a warm but cloudy morning. Facing league leaders Old Southendian & Southchurch CC, Parks were hunting a valuable 25 points to close the gap at the top of the table.

Openers Krishan and Faisal Bhatti got the innings off to a flying start, with Krishan playing some powerful shots through the offside before being bowled for 21. Viraj Khagram was the next man in and batted wonderfully for his 53, striking some beautiful straight drives for six and targeting both spinners and seamers with ease in a classy, confident display. Alongside him, Faisal anchored the innings well for a solid 38, finding the occasional boundary whilst keeping the scoreboard ticking. However, both fell in quick succession as the score rapidly shifted from a commanding 110-1 to a nervy 117-3. A middle-order collapse ensued, with some questionable shots played given the match situation, leaving Parks reeling at 146-6 despite a resilient 24 from Aman Ali. Sam Hodgson was the pick of the bowlers for Old Southend, returning exceptional figures of 7-31 from his 16 overs by bowling tight lines and taking wickets at regular intervals. It seemed the innings was heading for an abrupt end until a crucial last-wicket stand of 39 between Tanay Shetty (18) and Jigar Desai (12*) saved the day, dragging the team past the important 200-run milestone to finish on a defendable total of 207.

The second innings started in spectacular fashion when Selvam Ramasamy (3-27) clattered the off-stump of Old Southend’s star batsman, Hafiz Yawer Afzal, for a duck. The tight bowling continued, and Selva picked up another quick scalp to leave the opposition at 42-2, but a strong partnership between Harry Clarke (57) and Roger Walker (30) soon steadied the ship for the visitors, leaving Parks staring down the barrel of defeat with Old Southend cruising at 107-2. Fortunately, the drinks break brought a sudden shift in momentum. Spinners Tanay Shetty (4-35) and Aman Ali (3-24) completely turned the game on its head, applying immense pressure and getting the ball to rag fiercely in a masterclass of partnership bowling. In a flash, 107-2 became 109-4, and self-belief surged back into the Parks side. From that point on, wickets fell at regular intervals, and Old Southend were eventually bowled out for 132, handing Parks a famous 75-run victory and a maximum 25-point haul that moves the team up to joint-second.

Next week, the side travel to face South Woodford, looking to maintain their winning momentum.
