Match report Oakfield Parkonians 1st XI took another huge step towards promotion with a convincing 79-run victory over Ilford CC 1st XI after posting an imposing 318-9 from their 50 overs and then restricting the home side to 239-8. Having won the toss and elected to bat, Oakfield made an excellent start courtesy of openers P Kalley and S Chaudhry. The pair laid a strong foundation, putting on 77 for the first wicket and ensuring the innings got off to exactly the sort of start the home side was looking for. Chaudhry was first to depart after a fluent 35 from 45 balls, including seven boundaries, but not before helping establish early momentum. Kalley continued in positive fashion, striking seven fours in an entertaining knock of 46 from just 50 deliveries. Although he fell just short of a deserved half-century, his innings ensured Oakfield remained firmly on the front foot at 109-2. The middle overs were expertly controlled by R Karunakaran, who once again demonstrated his consistency with the bat. His well-crafted 60 from 69 balls anchored the innings while allowing those around him to play with freedom. Useful contributions from M Dinayadura (21) and U Choudhry (40) kept the scoreboard moving as Oakfield steadily built towards a formidable total. After reaching 210-5, the innings was given a major boost by a spectacular late assault from E Kalley and T Bhatia. E Kalley produced one of the standout performances of the day, finishing unbeaten on 56 from only 38 balls, striking five boundaries and a six at a superb strike rate of over 147. At the other end, Bhatia unleashed an explosive cameo of 31 from just 17 deliveries, including three maximums, as the pair accelerated dramatically in the closing stages. Their partnership helped Oakfield surge past the 300-mark and finish on an excellent 318-9.

Defending a challenging total, Oakfield's bowlers made the perfect start. Ilford found themselves under immediate pressure as S Ali struck early, removing A Raja, while E Kalley accounted for opener S Zahir to leave the visitors struggling at 11-2. N Sureshan then joined the wickets column, dismissing S Chaggar as Oakfield tightened their grip on proceedings. Although Ilford attempted to rebuild through M Ahktar, who played a resilient innings of 59, Oakfield never allowed the game to drift. The bowlers worked collectively and maintained control throughout the chase. S Ali finished with 2 wickets, while Karunakaran capped a fine all-round performance by taking 2-39, including the important wickets of M Taj and H Shah. T Bhatia also impressed with the ball, returning economical figures of 1-22 from six overs, while Sureshan claimed 1-32 and Kalley bowled ten tidy overs for just 35 runs. Sharp fielding continued to support the bowlers, with a crucial run out from E Kalley helping to halt Ilford's progress. Despite a late half-century from Ilford's A Syed, the visitors were always well behind the required rate and eventually closed on 239-8, handing Oakfield a comprehensive 79-run victory and a valuable 20-point haul.

The result leaves Oakfield Parkonians tantalisingly close to promotion to Division One. After an outstanding season built on consistency, teamwork and match-winning performances across the squad, promotion is now firmly within touching distance. The equation is simple: if Oakfield win their next league fixture, they will secure promotion to Division One and complete a remarkable campaign. With confidence high and momentum firmly on their side, the team will head into the final stages of the season knowing that one more victory could seal a deserved place in next years division one
