Match report Oakfield Parkonians produced a spirited batting performance but ultimately had to settle for a draw after a high-scoring encounter against Old Brentwoods CC, who amassed an imposing 351-7 from their 50 overs.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Oakfield made an encouraging start when Paran Kalley struck early to remove H Ali for 11, caught and bowled with the score on 24. However, Old Brentwoods soon rebuilt through H Ahmed and M Ahmed, who added valuable runs before R Karunakaran broke the partnership by dismissing M Ahmed for 22. The visitors continued to work hard in the field as T Bhatia claimed two important wickets, including R Rehman for a duck and M Westfield for 17, leaving Brentwoods on 117-4. At that stage, Oakfield appeared well placed, but the game changed dramatically thanks to a devastating counterattack from B Choudhary. Choudhary used the good wicket and small boundaries to his advantage, blasting 140 from just 84 deliveries, including 15 sixes and five fours. His remarkable acceleration transformed the innings and put Oakfield's bowlers under severe pressure during the latter stages. He shared key partnerships with H Ahmed, who played a more measured knock of 100 from 131 balls, carrying his bat deep into the innings and providing the foundation for Brentwoods' eventual total. Despite the punishment, Oakfield continued to battle hard. Paran Kalley was the standout bowler, returning excellent figures of 3-60 from 10 overs, accounting for both Choudhary and W Khalid in the closing overs. Bhatia finished with 2-93, while Karunakaran and S Ali each claimed a wicket as Old Brentwoods closed on an imposing 351-7.

Faced with a daunting chase, Oakfield responded positively. Opener S Chaudhry set the tone with an aggressive 46 from only 27 balls, striking six boundaries and two sixes before falling to Westfield. His attacking approach gave Oakfield early momentum and ensured the required run rate remained within reach. The middle order then produced some outstanding cricket. Bilal Anwar anchored the innings superbly with 76 from 105 balls, while R Karunakaran contributed a fluent 44 from 33 deliveries. The most significant contribution came from M Dinayadura, whose excellent 77 from 60 balls kept Oakfield firmly in contention throughout the chase. His innings featured eight fours and two sixes and demonstrated both composure and attacking intent. Despite wickets falling periodically, Oakfield maintained their pursuit. Brentwoods' main threats came through A Sajjad and W Khalid, who both finished with two wickets. However, Oakfield's lower middle order ensured there would be no collapse. Paran Kalley added an unbeaten 30 from 22 balls, including three sixes, before another valuable late contribution of 19 not out from 13 deliveries helped push the visitors beyond the 300-run mark.

At the conclusion of the allotted 45 overs, Oakfield had reached 309-5, falling short of the target but securing a respectable draw and valuable league points. While Brentwoods will look back on Choudhary's explosive 140 as the defining performance of the contest, Oakfield can take considerable pride from a batting display that featured four scores above 40 and a determined chase against a formidable total. In a match dominated by the bat, both sides provided excellent entertainment, with over 650 runs scored and several standout individual performances. Oakfield's resilience, led by Manoj, Bilaal and Paran, ensured they left with plenty of positives despite being unable to overhaul Brentwoods' commanding first-innings total.
