Match report Westcliff-On-Sea CC 1st XI secured a hard-fought 39-run victory over Oakfield Parkonians CC after posting 217 all out and then producing a disciplined bowling display to dismiss the visitors for 178. Having won the toss and elected to field, Oakfield Parkonians initially looked to have made the correct decision as Westcliff lost wickets at regular intervals throughout their innings. However, crucial contributions in the middle order ensured the home side built a competitive total. Westcliff’s innings began positively with Charlie Lockhart and Carl Lees adding early momentum. Lockhart struck 20 from 25 deliveries, including three boundaries and a six, while Lees contributed 24 from 29 balls with five fours before both fell inside the opening ten overs. Aditya Shukla maintained the scoring rate with an energetic 17, but when Praneet Patel departed without scoring at 70-4, Westcliff found themselves needing a recovery. That recovery came through Joe Robbins and Finlay Mackay, whose partnership transformed the innings. Robbins anchored proceedings superbly, compiling a measured 57 from 74 balls, striking five boundaries and two sixes. At the other end, Mackay played with increasing authority, making an excellent 52 from 68 deliveries including five fours and three maximums. Their stand carried Westcliff from a difficult position into one of control and laid the platform for a late push. Although wickets continued to fall, Muhammad Faisal Farooqi’s quickfire 21 from just 14 balls added valuable lower-order runs and pushed the total beyond the 200 mark. Oakfield’s bowlers worked hard throughout. Rian Parmar was the standout performer, returning figures of 4-44 and regularly breaking partnerships. Navine Sureshan offered excellent support with 3-21, while Paran Kalley chipped in with two wickets.

Chasing 218, Oakfield never quite established the momentum required. Their innings started cautiously before Callum Mortimer produced the breakthrough, removing Shahariyar Chaudhry and then striking twice more to leave the visitors under pressure at 40-2. Bilaal Anwar battled for 20 from 53 balls, but Westcliff’s attack maintained tight control. Muhammad Faisal Farooqi removed Umar Choudhry before Sam Adley struck twice in quick succession, dismissing Viraj Khagram and Navine Sureshan to reduce Oakfield to 104-6. Despite resistance from Manoj Sarathchandra Dinayadura, who top-scored with 28, and a later counterattack from Rian Parmar’s entertaining 28, Oakfield were unable to produce the substantial partnership required. Shafiqullah Kamal delivered the decisive spell of the innings. His figures of 3-33 halted any hopes of a late comeback, removing key middle and lower-order batters as wickets continued to tumble. Mortimer finished with 3-70 from an impressive 14-over spell, while Adley claimed 2-26 and Farooqi delivered a miserly 10 overs for just 36 runs.

The final wicket fell on 178 in the 40th over, sealing a deserved 39-run win for Westcliff-On-Sea CC and securing a valuable 25-point return after an all-round team performance.
