Match report The Oakfield Parkonians Sunday A XI travelled to Fords Sports and Social Ground for their first league fixture against defending champions London Desperados.

New captain Krishan Dilipkumar lost the toss and the young side were sent in to field first. On a tough and difficult surface with a short boundary on one side also causing some problems for the bowlers, Rian Parmar and Suyash Agrawal bowled tightly and economically to gets Parks off to a good start. Yet the Desperados number 3 (S Roy) batted superbly and managed to anchor his team’s innings very well in the middle overs despite some positive bowling from Nivain Jayawardena who picked up two key wickets with some smart offies alongside Tanay Shetty who also threatened the opposition batters with some lovely flight. The opposition ended their innings on a hefty 258 but as we went into tea we were confident that we could chase it down.

Krishan Dilipkumar (37) and Faisal Bhatti (46) started the 2nd innings strongly and blitzed through the opening bowlers putting on a great stand of 90 with some attacking batting. Yet the real star of the show was the overseas batsman Eknath Kerkar who showed his class and skill with a majestic 97*, hitting the bowlers through all parts of the ground with ease. It was a joy to watch and may his form continue for the 1s as we head further into the season. He was admirably supported by Janagan Vijayanathan (35) who comfortably knocked about the spinners, meaning that the side were never behind the scoring rate in a big chase. Suryasankara Narayanan and Rian Parmar supported Eknath well at the end and the Sunday side ended up winning a thriller with one ball to spare.

It was a very enjoyable game for both sides and it was fantastic to start the league off with a win and with it being even more satisfying that it was against last year’s winners.
