Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost 69 runs

Match report Parks 5th XI fell short by 69 runs in their home fixture against Brentwood 5th XI, chasing a modest target of 198 in a 40 over match.
Parks skipper Vija Vijayanathan won the toss and opted to field under overcast condition, a decision that paid early dividends. Opening bowlers Nav Kalley (2 wickets) and Aryan Chavan (1 wicket) struck early reducing Brentwood to 3 down within the first few overs. However, a resilient middle order partnership between the Brentwood skipper Joseph Paisley and Rajesh Jethwa steadied the innings. The pair capitalised on some missed opportunities in the field and added a valuable 74 run partnership stand. The breakthrough came courtesy of Nilay Tenjura, who bowled Jethwa with a superb delivery that hit the stumps. After a tidy spell by the skipper, Mark Gager cleaned up the tail with an outstanding 5 wicket haul, (5 for 35 in 8 overs). Brentwood finished their innings at 198 for 9 after 40 overs.

Parks' reply got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets and putting pressure on the middle order. Kush Ruparelia and Mark Gager offered some resistance, adding a 42 run partnership on a deteriorating pitch. Gager was eventually dismissed for 19, caught brilliantly by Steve Rutledge at deep midwicket.
Ruparelia (24) followed soon after, falling while attempting a big shot, and Parks struggled to maintain the required run rate as wickets fell at regular intervals. Despite a quickfire 20 from Balvindor Diocee and a composed, unbeaten 32 from young Aryan Chavan who impressed with a few elegant stroke, Parks ended their innings 69 runs short, with 9 wickets down.
