Match report A superb unbeaten century from the young Poornasai Vanam (105*) and an excellent supporting knock from Nilay Tenjura (28*) helped Parks 5th XI to a comfortable victory over Ilford 5th XI, with 5.5 overs to spare in their 40 over league game at Power League.
Chasing 192 on a testing pitch under overcast condition and despite losing his partner Idrees Ali in the 2nd over Mark Gager (31) gave Parks a steady start, before a game changing fourth-wicket partnership of 126 between Vanam and Tenjura took the match away from Ilford. Vanam’s knock was the standout performance, a mature and fluent innings that helped the chase and showed his growing potential..
Earlier, Ilford posted a competitive 192 in 39.3 overs, thanks to useful contributions from Ali H Ahmed (36) and Umar Arbar (26). But it was Parks' Shahid Khan who made the biggest impact with the ball, dismantling the middle order in a tidy four over spell that earned remarkable figures of 4 for 12.
Youngster Aryan Chavan also impressed, removing a threatening opener with a sharp catch at slip and returning to claim the final wicket, ending with 2 for 29 from six tidy overs.
