Match report OPCC 5th XI beat Goresbrook 3rd XI by 3 wickets on Saturday 21 June 2025

Despite the scorching heat, with temperatures hitting over 30°C, Parks won the toss and chose to field in their away game on the astro turf pitch. The decision paid off as Goresbrook were bowled out for just 132 in 32.2 overs.
Parks made early breakthroughs, with Nav Kalley claiming the first two wickets, including a catch and bowl dismissal of the dangerous George Miller, who had looked in good touch, smashing 22 runs. Skipper Vijay Vijayanathan then came on as first change and quickly made an impact, taking four wickets in total and keeping Goresbrook’s score in check.
Although tailenders Liam Elsom (20), Mahfooz Mazunder (33), and Ben Atkins (21) fought back to push the total up, Parks’ bowlers were on top. Aadhithya Premkumar also chipped in, taking two big wickets, Mahfooz and Elsom to break up a promising partnership. Returning Nav Kally with and Sachin Fing bowling first spell in the season wrapped up Goresbrook's innings at 132 after 32.2 overs.
In response, Parks had a solid start with an opening stand of 58 between Mark Gager and Waqar Yusuf. However, things got a bit tricky as the middle order collapsed, leaving Amar Desai and Vijay to steady the ship. The two added 29 crucial runs before Amar was caught behind for 19.
Vijay then teamed up with Sachin Arora for another vital partnership of 19, but Sachin was dismissed after a brilliant catch at short leg. Despite the pressure, Parks managed to get over the line, winning by 7 wickets.
Next week, Parks will face a tough challenge against the unbeaten Neo CC 3rd XI, who are sitting at the top of the division. Should be an exciting game!
