Match report Parks secured a seven wicket victory over the GP&R 5th XI in a rain affected match at Parks. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, GP&R struggled early but managed to reach 186/7 in their allotted 40 overs. The turning point came after the drinks break, with the GP&R batsmen capitalising on Parks' underperformance in both bowling and fielding. GP&R’s skipper, James Griffins, anchored the innings with an unbeaten 50, coming in at number eight. He formed a crucial partnership with senior player Chet Chohan, who top scored with 55. Together, they brough their side to a competitive total on a tricky pitch. For Parks, skipper Vijay Vijayanathan and debutant Aryan Chavan were the standout bowlers, each picking up three wickets. Shankar Manicks bowled with excellent discipline, conceding just 16 runs from his 8 overs, making him the most economical bowler in the match. A special mention goes to Aryan Chavan, who impressed not only with his consistent line and length but also with his exceptional fielding skills.
Chasing 187 for victory, Parks had a shaky start, losing three quick wickets. However, Sachin Fing (67) steadied the ship with a composed innings, ensuring the required run rate was maintained. Despite the early setbacks, Parks seemed to be in control until the rain forced an interruption with the score at 147/7 after 27.5 overs. Parks won on the superior run rate.
The win lifts Parks slightly in their division, moving them up to 8th place. The 5th XI now has a week off from league action before their next game, an away game against Goresbrook 3rd XI in two weeks.
