Match report Another disappointing result for the 5s, despite an excellent effort in the field to restrict Hornchurch 5th XI to just 148 after winning the toss and choosing to bowl on a pitch that looked favourable for bowlers following overnight rain. The opening spell from Nav Kalley and Rameyaan Selvamohan set the tone, supported well by the rest of the bowling attack, particularly Shankar Manicks (8-22-1) and the young Prathik Karthik (8-33-2). Hornchurch were bowled out in the penultimate over, with Nav Kalley the standout performer, claiming 4 wickets. A composed innings of 52 from young John O'Brian and a late cameo of 25 from skipper Graeme Farquhar were the only notable contributions with the bat. Aadhitya Premkumar and Vijay Vijayanathan also chipped in with a wicket each.
Confidence was high at tea with Parks chasing a well below par total of 148. The chase got off to a flying start as opener Mark Gager dispatched the very first ball for six and continued to punish the Hornchurch bowlers with a fluent run a ball 63. However, after his dismissal, the middle order struggled to maintain momentum and ultimately fell just 10 runs short of the target. Despite valiant efforts from Sachin Fing (16) and Vijay Vijayanathan (28), the team couldn't quite get over the line. Rayyan Bhatti was the pick of the bowlers for Hornchurch, finishing with impressive figures of 8-3-12-4.
A frustrating result for the 5s, and a clear indication that significant improvement is needed in the batting department to turn things around in the coming fixtures.
