Match report Oakfield Parkonians 3rd XI hosted Upminster 4th XI in a closely fought contest and came out on top with a hard-earned 13-run victory, built on gritty lower-middle-order batting and aggressive bowling under pressure. Captain Fazan Habib lost the toss and Parkonians were asked to bat first on a dry, green surface.

The innings got off to a shaky start with early wickets falling, but Ayaan Usman provided crucial impetus with an attacking 56 off 50 balls, finding the boundary regularly to steady the innings. He was well supported by Rian Parmar (39) but it was Janeban Selvamohan who stole the headlines, he produced a brilliant 75 off 75 balls, anchoring the innings and guiding Parkonians toward a strong total. Supporting contributions down the order from Aadhithya Premkumar (15) and Sachin Arora (23) ensured Parkonians reached an extremely competitive total of 253.

Defending the total, Parkonians began with intent. Rian Parmar and Janeban Selvamohan picked up key wickets to stem early momentum, before Samay Bhattacharjee bowled a match-defining spell of 3 for 45, removing dangerous middle-order batters at critical moments. Young Aadhithya Premkumar also impressed with the ball, taking 2 for 46.

Upminster’s chase was kept alive by strong knocks from Matthew Ingleson (67) and Nathan French (64*), but Parkonians held their nerve right at the end. Despite facing injuries to outfielders, funky field settings and smart bowling changes at the death ensured the visitors were bowled out for 240, falling just short of the target.

It was a high-pressure finish and a rewarding team effort. Fazan praised the side’s resilience and composure in defending the total, with key contributions coming from all departments. A vital win that reflects the growing maturity and belief in the squad, with the likes of Ayaan, Terry and Aadhi all contributing towards the victory. Fazan Habib now faces a selection headache as the team chases a promotion place heading into the final third of the season.
