Match report Bentley Cricket Club 1st XI edged out Oakfield Parkonians CC in a thrilling contest, securing a hard-fought 9-run victory in their league fixture. After electing to bat first on a dry, sunlit afternoon, Bentley posted a competitive 231 for 8 from their allotted 50 overs, largely thanks to a commanding century from opener Max Stevenson.

Stevenson was the anchor of Bentley’s innings, crafting a patient and composed 114 from 143 balls. His knock, featuring 13 boundaries, held the innings together while wickets fell around him. Early on, Bentley lost Chris Pether for just 7, but Stevenson found support from Phil Coleman (28) and Ashley Parmenter (24) as the side steadily built momentum. A flurry of wickets in the middle overs briefly threatened to derail their innings, with three wickets falling for 37 runs, but a late cameo from Glen Swinney (15* off 8) ensured Bentley pushed past the 230 mark. The Oakfield Parkonians bowling attack was led by Navine Sureshan, who impressed with figures of 3 for 55, while Taranpreet Bhatia chipped in with 2 for 50.

Chasing 232 for victory, Oakfield Parkonians made a shaky start as Dylan Hammond tore through the top order, removing Eknath Kerkar, Viraj Khagram, and Shahariyar Chaudhry in quick succession. Hammond’s early burst left the hosts reeling at 60 for 5, and despite a stabilizing partnership between Umar Choudhry (45) and Paran Kalley (73), wickets continued to fall at crucial junctures. While Paresh Kalley (40) and skipper Paran were at the crease it seemed as though they were bringing Parks within touching distance of the target, but the pressure told, and the final wicket fell with the score on 222 in the 45th over, giving Bentley a thrilling 9-run win.

It is our first loss in the league of the year and a tough one to take. But with some crucial games coming over the next couple weeks its important that the lads bounce back and look to get back to winning ways.
