Match report In a dramatic low-scoring encounter, Oakfield Parkonians CC 1st XI edged past Old Brentwoods CC 1st XI by just two wickets in a tense clash dominated by bowling. Despite Old Brentwoods’ underwhelming total of 70, they pushed Oakfield Parkonians all the way, showcasing disciplined bowling and sharp fielding that nearly turned the tide.

Having won the toss and opting to bowl first, Oakfield Parkonians’ decision proved immediately fruitful. The Old Brentwoods innings never really found footing as wickets tumbled early and frequently. Within the opening overs the hosts were 14 for 4 after just 4 overs. A gritty partnership between numbers 5 and 6 gave some hope to Old Brentwoods, combining for 48 runs—the only meaningful stand in the innings. However, when number 5 got out, it triggered another collapse. From 62 for 4, Old Brentwoods crumbled to 70 all out in just 24.3 overs. Tarun Bhatia starred with the ball for Parks, returning outstanding figures of 6.3-2-9-4, well supported by Paran Kalley and Sifth Ali, who picked up two wickets apiece.

Chasing 71 for victory, Oakfield Parkonians expected a straightforward task, but Old Brentwoods’ bowlers had other plans. The top order was dismantled early, their bowlers exploited the pitch expertly and used the pink new ball just as well as the Parks bowlers did. Within the first 5 overs, Parkonians found themselves at 21 for 4. As the wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, Old Brentwood further tightened the grip, snaring four wickets in 6 overs, including a double-strike that had the visitors tottering at 47 for 7. However, a composed knock from Tarun Bhatia (9 not out) guided Oakfield Parkonians home, reaching 72 for 8 in 14.2 overs. Extras played a crucial role, contributing 11 runs to the winning target.
