Match report OPCC 5th XI lost to Southwoodford CC 4th XI by 5 wickets at OPCC ground.
This has been an innaugural game for the 5th XI playing amongst other 2 of our 5 league Saturday XIs and made a historical record of OPCC, playing 3 league games on a Saturday at OPCC ground.
5th XI lost the toss and were inserted on a brand new pitch had a great start as openers Shahid Khan and Waqar Yusuf taking advantage of short boundary which is merely a 40 yards from the pitch. Parks were 106 for one at the drinks break after losing Waqar for well made 42 and number 3 batsman Jigar Shah without troubling the scorer. Shahid Khan started his innings slowly, causiously and accelerated later on to bring the run rate up but was stumped for 29. Despite an explosive batting from Bal Diocee (38) Parks struggled to score against a young leg spinner Shazed Majid who took 5 wickets for 41 in 8 overs. Parks were all out for a well par score 173 in 36.3 overs.
In reply, Southwoodford came out positively to chase dowm the small target, started well until the break through came when Shahid Khan was introduced. Shahid went on to take two more wickets causing a middle order collapse but the opening batsman Andrew O'Brien (65no) and number seven batsman Abdul Lughmani (33) ensured to bat through to achieve the target in 32.3 overs. Parks much improved performance ( Raj Rathlavath's excellent ground fielding should be commented here) in every departments in the game, boosted the confidence that we could compete against any teams in our division and win games in the coming weeks.
