Match report OPPC 4s lost to Upminster by 7 wickets

Parks faced Upminster at Oakfield on a humid but cloudy day. The Parks captain won the toss and chose to bat first, aiming to capitalise on the dry conditions with a flat pitch and fast outfield. Parks' innings began with two young openers, Terry Ranjith and Tanay Shetty, who started well and displayed good technique, scoring 14 and 13 respectively. Following their departure, Upender Sanga took the stage, living up to the hype with an almost flawless century. His innings, which began cautiously, culminated in some powerful hitting. Sanga scored 117, including 15 fours and 5 sixes, with a SR of 102. He was well supported by Chamara Jayawardana, who scored a stylish 55 (with 9 fours and 2 sixes, at a SR of 82) before retiring hurt. Parks concluded their innings at a competitive 239 for 4 in 45 overs.

Upminster began their innings cautiously, struggling to score early on against the pace bowling of Mazhar Minhas (10-1-53-0) and debutant Rasheed Siriyala (11-1-45-2). At tea, Upminster stood at 83-1, leaving the match evenly poised, but Parks remained confident. However, with the sun shining on the flat track, Upminster started to score freely in the second half of their innings. Despite the Parks captain utilising seven different bowlers, they struggled to stem the flow of runs as Upminster’s batsmen exploited the favourable conditions much better. In the end, Upminster won the match by 7 wickets with four balls to spare, thanks to outstanding performances from young Michael Pedrick (69) and thirteen-year-old Finley Tolan (53).

In retrospect, Parks were 30 runs short on a pitch that favoured the batsmen. Despite the tough game against a quality opposition, there are many positives to carry forward into the upcoming home match against Frenford.
