Match report Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 3rd XI welcomed Gidea Park & Romford as the two teams faced each other for the first time this season. Having lost the toss, Parks were put into bat. Akhil hit some lovely boundaries before edging a ball onto the stumps, making a quickfire 23 in the process to get Parks off to a rapid start. The innings was anchored by an impressive 89 from the stylish Reuben Chandy, who showcased his prowess with 10 boundaries and four sixes, playing a pivotal role in setting a strong foundation for the team. On the other end, Venkata Jinka’s aggressive 62, including seven fours and some majestic sixes down the ground, helped take Parks to a platform where they could launch a serious assault. Fazan Habib scored a rapid and powerful 54, hitting four boundaries and four sixes, and Janeban Selvamohan chipped in with a handy 33. This propelled the innings to 297, allowing the Parks captain to declare early, giving 7 overs back to the opposition to chase down the target. Fayyas Jabbar was the standout bowler for Gidea Park & Romford, claiming 3 crucial wickets for 74 runs, supported by Amar Dhanjal’s 2-wicket haul for 27 runs.

In response, Gidea Park & Romford managed to put up a spirited fight and just about hung on to avoid defeat, being restricted to 223 for 9 in their 52 overs. Mughir Qureshi led the charge with a solid 56, providing a glimmer of hope for a win for his team. Fayyas Jabbar and Amar Dhanjal contributed with scores of 14 and 44 respectively, while Salman Elahi’s 32 kept the scoreboard ticking. Sarosh Elahi also added a useful 37, but their efforts were not enough to chase down the daunting target. Oakfield’s bowlers maintained consistent pressure, with Praven Sureshen delivering an excellent and deserving match-winning performance by taking 6 wickets for just 28 runs in his 13 overs, exhibiting exceptional control and accuracy. Aman Patel took three excellent catches to keep the pressure on. Rasheed Siriyala and Venkata Jinka also chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring that Gidea Park & Romford’s batting lineup couldn't gain the upper hand.

Despite a valiant effort and disciplined bowling attack from Oakfield Parkonians, they could not make the final breakthrough to claim a memorable win and 25 points. The performance, however, was outstanding with solid strategic execution in both departments. Parks are hoping to carry on this momentum into the backend of this season.
