Match report Old Parks U13 played Braintree in the group stages of the Peter Coe cup. Braintree was unbeaten in the group stages and this was there last match. Shane Vamadevan won the toss and elected to bowl on a sunny Sunday morning. A brilliant opening spell of bowling from Taariq Bharuchi and Hassan Chaudhry saw Braintree 24-0 after 8 overs. Abhiman Somaseragan made the first breakthrough during the 12th over. As the pitch dried out batting conditions improved which assisted the opposition. Runs started to flow easily but good bowling and fielding restricted Braintree to 164-5 with good bowling figures for Taariq Bharuchi (6 overs 1 maiden 0-23) and Abhiman Somaseragan (6 overs 2-30). The score was well in reach of the Parks. The run chase didn’t start well when the Parks lost Vikram Handa in the third over for 5. In came Hassan at three in need of a big score. A brilliant 70 run partnership between Shane Vamadevan and Hassan Chaudhry put the Parks in Control at 79-1 after 13 overs. Then disaster struck when Shane who was poised for a big score top edged one to the keeper for 40. Hassan then raised his bat in happiness after he brought up his maiden fifty with a four after just 38 balls. Hassan and Taariq took the score to 140-2 after 26 overs with 24 runs needed from 24 balls. Then a big setback occurred when Taariq got out caught for an unlucky 13. Batsmen came in and got out in sacrifice for runs and to get Hassan on strike that was set to make a maiden century. The Parks needed 5 to win in the last over with Hassan on strike on 97*. Hassan drove one through the covers and scampered back for the second but was sadly run out on 98. It was a truly electrifying innings from Hassan Chaudhry making 98 from 71 balls with 13x 4’s and 2x6’s. The scores were level and the Parks needed a single run from a single ball to come out triumphant. The ball missed everything and ran away for 4 byes. The Park’s had come out on top after a last ball thriller winning by 4 wickets
