Parks travelled to the scenic ground in Brentwood on a warm but cloudy day to begin the campaign of the second half of the season. Skipper lost the toss (again} and Parks were invited to bat first on a flat wicket.
Despite losing Ibad Usman in the 3rd over when the score was at 12, Parks had to stabilise the innings before Tariq Jameel was bowled for a rapid 46. Mark Gager scoring a good looking 33 followed suit the opener for the middle order batsmen Kush Ruparelia (48) and Sachin Arora (34) to steady the ship with an excellent partnership of 93 in 19 overs. After both batsmen departed, Janeban Selvamohan’s cameo innings of 39 helped Parks to declare on 256 after 41.3 overs.
Shenfield started their pursuit well as the opening batsman Ciaran Dunleavy looked dangerous scoring 22 in 13 balls before he was comprehensively bowled by Sachin Arora (8-1-20-1) in the 4th over. Kush Ruperaila’s and Ibad Usman’s excellent fielding with direct throws saw Shenfield losing two wickets in quick succession, putting them in the back foot. However the Essex over 60s 1XI player David Castle (47no) and the opening young Joey Newbould played cautiously until Ibad Usman was introduced who made the breakthrough by bowling Joey Newbould for well made 56. He went onto take another wicket before Shenfield managed to earn a draw with a score of 180 for 5 in the revised number of overs of 43. Ibad Usman was the pick of the bowers with 2 wickets for 18 runs in his spell of 6 overs.
