Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 36 Runs

Match report Oakfield Parkonians travelled to Billericay knowing that a win would guarantee them a place in the quarter finals. Captain Krishan Dilipkumar lost the toss and Parks were sent in to field yet again.

The opening bowlers (Charith and Vajran) initially started nicely with runs being hard to come by. Nikhil as first change sustained this pressure and too bowled well. Navine Sureshan playing his first U16 game came in and broke the 84 run opening stand. Death bowling from Ashwin Sureshan (2-42), who bowled admirably with a swollen finger and spinner Prajen Kavinkumar who was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets meant Billericay scored what seemed a slightly below par 218.

However what happened next was certainly not anticipated. Both openers were sent back within 4 overs and the loss of two wickets meant Parks were struggling and in danger of being trundled out for under 80 at 16-4. A brilliant innings from Ali Khan (52) who was supported by Prajen (27) gave Parks a glimmer of hope before Ali was unlucky to get run out looking for a quick single. Charith came in for some late hitting and managed to get 26 but the U16s fell short by 36 in the end.

Though a loss, the match was a testament to the character of the U16s with the middle and lower order scoring 170 runs amongst them, with the team knowing that if they can produce a comfortable win against Frenford they should hopefully get a place in the Quarter Finals.
