Epping 3rd X1 v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 03 Sep 2022 at 12.30pm
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 3 wkts
Match report
This week Parks visited league leaders Epping 3s for the final game of the season looking to end the season on a high. After losing the toss Parks were asked to field by the opposition captain on a humid muggy day. Young buck Sriraman Sri (8-0-62-2) opened the bowling and immediately made an impact by removing the middle stump of the opening batsman with his third ball. On the other end Manicks Shankar (7-0-29-1) kept things tidy to apply pressure from one end. The Epping carried on playing their attacking brand of cricket which served them very well all season, scoring six an over to reach 62-1 at the tenth over mark. The follow up bowlers all did well to contain the total score below 250, which at one point looked to exceed over 275. Vajran (8-1-46-1) and veteran bowler Vijey Vijeyanathan (5-0-32-2) both bowled well towards the end of the innings to restrict Epping for 243 – 6 after 40 overs.
In reply parks lost the first 3 wickets cheaply with scores at 57 after 12 overs. Young colt Aryan Desai Jr showed some intend and played beautifully for his 25 including four consecutive boundaries in one over. When Aryan departed for a misjudged shot, pacer Sriraman joined his younger brother Vajran to form one of the best middle order partnerships we have seen all season. They batted together for the next twenty overs to put-together a 140 runs partnership. Sriraman (58) showcased his batting abilities for the first time to prove he is not just a pace bowler. Vajran (80) carried on his fine form by playing another matured innings with his elegant cut and pull shots. Both brothers ran exceptionally well between the wickets frustrating the opposition fielders. Once both brothers departed with scores at 203 after 33 overs, Keerthigan Thangavel (27) with the help of the tail enders made sure Parks crossed the line with 5 balls to spare to win by 3 wickets.
This was the perfect way to end the season against a very strong team like Epping. Parks finished their season with 10 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses. The season belongs to some of the promising young colts in the club who stepped up when senior availability caused havoc throughout the season. They should be proud of themselves for the way they have handled senior cricket for the first time. The team will now take a well-earned break before getting back together for the winter nets to regroup for the next season.
