Frenford 4th X1 v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 06 Aug 2022 at 12.30pm

Match report After back-to-back wins, Parks took a young side to Frenford for the last of the timed matches with Fazan Habib making his captaincy debut in the absence of regular skipper Manicks Shankar. Winning the toss, Parks opted to field first. Sriraman Srividyanathan opened the bowling and troubled both of the opening batsmen, moving the ball both ways and was extremely unlucky not to get a wicket in his opening spell (but only needed three balls at the end to claim the final wicket of the innings). Aman Patel (7-2-36-3) entered the bowling attack at first change and made an immediate impact with two wickets in his first two overs. Young Vajran (6-1-21-1) on the other end provided more than sufficient support, bowling with excellent control and picked up a well deserved wicket with an in-swinging yorker. On a lightning fast outfield, the Frenford batsmen didn’t hold back from their attacking intent, but wickets continued to fall on a regular basis. Praven constantly troubled their batsmen with his leg spin and took home his best figures in his recent weeks (9-1-39-4). A special mention to Aman again for taking an outstanding diving catch, extending himself completely whilst jumping forwards to catch the ball just inches from the ground. Although we did well to restrict them to only 208, we could have limited them further if we had taken all of our chances (mostly half chances) in the field. Nevertheless, there were a lot of positives in the field from a side that has not played a lot of cricket together.

Chasing 209, Young Ibad and in form Yash Patel got Parks off to an excellent start with a 50+ run partnership in good time. Ibad demonstrated great technique and timing, playing confidently through the covers and down the ground. Unfortunately, he was run out by an excellent direct hit for 22. Parks then lost two wickets in the same over shortly after to left arm spinner Armaan Qaisoor (4 wickets), with captain Fazan Habib being caught by a remarkable boundary line catch without troubling the scores. With an inexperienced batting line up, all hopes rested with Yash Patel - who continued to play his natural game and found the boundary regularly. He was backed up by Maran (33) who rediscovered some much needed form with the bat. Yash made a well deserved 50 before being adjudged lbw and with that wicket, Parks had a lower middle order collapse going from 126-4 to 152-9 in the space of 10 overs. Vajran and Praven batted with solid temperament and defensive skills to draw out the game and avoided Frenford taking the full 25 points, which . At one point the chase seemed to be on but in the end the inexperience in the batting line up showed plus outstanding catching + ground fielding by Frenford meant Parks couldn’t get over the line.

Not the ideal result but against an opposition who are very strong on their home turf, Parks showed good fighting spirit throughout the contest and can take away a lot of positives from the game. Parks remain mid-table after inconsistency in performances in the timed game discipline but can be optimistic going back into the overs game starting with Walthamstow at home next week.
