Winning the toss, home-side Parks opted to field first. Parks opened the bowling with Manicks Shankar (7-0-23-0) and debutant U15 colt pacer Sriraman Srividyanathan (9-1-28-4). Both bowlers did not allow Gidea Park top order to bat freely early on. On his first senior match for the club, Sriraman showcased his pace, accuracy and control with the new ball and made life very difficult for the opposition top order. Three of his four wickets were taken by clean bowling the batsman and on one instant one of the bails was found fairly close to the boundary rope. A joy to watch the pacer in full flow and a potential future star for the club. Another U15 colt, Vajran Srividyananthan (6-1-32-1), the younger brother of Sriraman, also making is debut for the senior cricket, came in as the first change bowler and took his first wicket with his first ball! A left arm pacer with a beautiful action bowled with confident and control. Introduction of Jonanathan Balakumar (5-0-26-3) brought in three quick wickets including one superb juggling catch at first slip by veteran Gurmit Bhatia and a sky-high catch at mid-off by young Vajran. Gidea park was eventually bowled out for 160 within 36 overs. The other two wickets were shared between Kaj Skandamoorty (3-0-18-1) and Aryan Desai (5-0-32-1).

With 49 overs to chase down the target, Parks opened the innings with Jonathan Balakumar and Sujeev Suganthan. When Sujeev gifted his wicket to a mishit with scores at 13-1, U15 colt Ibad Usman joined Jonathan at number three. Both Jonathan and Ibad took their time to settle in and formed a partnership worth 93. Jonathan in particular punished any lose balls and made a fluent 71 including 13 boundaries. Ibad went on to make his maiden 55 for the senior team playing some eye pleasing straight bat shots including 7 boundaries. After doing the bulk of the work both batsmen departed with 26 runs needed to win the game. Young Vajran (15*) and Sriraman (6*) came together to see the side home with 20 overs to spare. Vajran enjoyed his time in the middle by hitting a huge six to long-off showcasing his all-around skills. Parks won the match by 6 wickets.

A satisfying win made special by colt Ibad’s first league fifty and the debut of two exceptional young talents in Vajran and Sriraman. Their enthusiasm and energy in the field was infectious and they can only go upwards from this point forward.
