Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI v Old Southendians on Sat 13 Aug 2022 at 11.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets.

Match report Oakfield Parkonians went into the last 4 games of the season knowing that 4 wins meant that promotion to division one would be guaranteed. The first of the 4 games was at home to Old Southendians who sat 5th and were also still in the promotion hunt. Skipper Paran Kalley lost another toss, and on a 34 degree day Old Southendians elected to bat first.

Parks got off to a good start and picked up a wicket inside the second over. The new ball offered a bit for the bowlers, getting it to seam about and give the batsmen a tricky start. Both Paresh and Viraj bowling really well and didn't allow Old Southend to score freely. However, with the lighting quick outfield and one side being incredibly small, the batting side was always going to be on top. Ravi Teja (10-0-45-0) and Om Thakeria (10-0-53-1) were the pick of the bowlers. They backed up Paresh and Viraj really well in the middle overs and were unlucky not to pick up more wickets. But with their paid player at the crease restricting them to some runs was always going to be tough. Scoring 121 for Old Southend and getting them up to a score of 316 was a good effort. It was a much better effort from Osman Choudhary (10-0-75-2) to get him out with 5/6 overs to go as it could have been another 40/50 runs that Parks were chasing. Old Southend ended on 316 off their 50 overs something Parks knew was a very chase-able target.

Parks got off to a good start getting 60 for no loss from the first 10 overs. We were up with the run rate and still had wickets in hand. That was the key. But at 20 overs and being 116 for 2, Parks knew the game was firmly in the balance needing 201 off 30 overs. However, Bilaal Anwar (137*) and Ravi (138*) had other ideas. They put on a 243 run partnership for the 3rd wicket which saw Bilaal get his first 1xi 100 and also his first for Parks. He batted with aggression but also ran through the wickets hard. To spend 95 overs on the field under the helmet from 11:30 am was a huge effort from Billy. These runs were a long time coming from him and we hope its the first of many for the club. Ravi just batted with class, adding yet another hundred and showed again how crucial he is to our club and this team. Chasing 317 with 6 overs to spare is a brilliant effort from the team. That's one win down and 3 to go. All still to play for.
