Gidea Park & Romford v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 23 Apr 2022 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets.

Match report Oakfield Parkonians first team kicked off the 2022 season with a cup game against division one Gidea Park & Romford. Skipper Paran Kalley lost the toss and Gidea Park decided to bat first. Taking the new ball for Parks was Selvam Ramasamy (10-0-53-3) and new recruit Osman Choudhary (10-1-43-5). Selvam started where he left of last year picking up a wicket with just the third ball of the game. He and Osman bowled a superb opening spell restricting the batsmen to just 40 off the first 10. As the ball got older it seemed to get easier to bat and the Gidea Park batsmen were taking it to the Parks bowlers. A few dropped opportunities and lazy fielding from the boys meant that Gidea Park didn't find things particularly difficult going into the drinks break at 118-1. Paran had a word with everyone at drinks and a slight change in the game plan and was going with a slightly more defensive approach. At one stage it seemed as though Gidea Park were eyeing up 300, but some excellent death bowling from Osman saw him pick up his first 5fer of his Oakfield Parkonians career and we hope that's the first of many. Parks restricted Gidea Park to 246 and this is something the boys were pleased with after seeing how well the pitch was playing and the position Gidea Park were in.

Parks started off the chase in the worst possible way losing Bilaal Anwar with just the third ball of the innings. However, Raihan Hussain (85) and Umar Choudhry (37), steered the ship and ensured there were no more early wickets. Both batsmen played with extreme maturity and rotated the strike very well. They allowed Parks to build a platform and ensure that the chase was still on. When Umar departed for a well made 37 it bought back the returning Aman Ali (60) who started off his innings slowly, but once he was in was a delight to watch. When Raihan was out for his 85 it was all on Aman and Parks required him to see the boys home. He was well supported by Paresh Kalley (34) who really put Parks in the driving seat by the time he got out. Parks won with 10 balls to spare and chased a huge target of 246 runs against division one opponents. It was an excellent chase by the boys and it now takes us into round two next week where we face division one opposition again in Harold Wood. Excellent start to the 2022 season for the first team and hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
