Match report Parks travelled to South Woodford to face their 4s on a hot and bright day. Parks won the toss and elected to bat in the hope of putting up a score and skittling South Woodford to gain maximum points.

Parks lost skipper Bal Diocee for 5 to an excellent swinging delivery from new South Woodford player Rajveer Roopra. Samuel Varnes managed 10 before falling to a catch in the face of some tight bowling. this brought together Amar Desai and Sachin Fing who consolidated the innings scoring 29 & 32 respectively with Sachin being run out going for a 3.

Amanjit posted a good looking 16. Nimanka DeSilva upped the scoring rate finishing 29 not out including a couple of huge 6s aided by Yashesh Patel who added 27. Parks finished on 192 for 8 in the full 45 overs.

After tea South Woodford started their reply. Rajesh Ankuru looked like he intended to attempt chasing down the target until Yash bowled him for 12. After that it was clear that South Woodford had no intention of continuing to chase and were batting for a draw.

Yash disposed of the two openers - one to a stunning one-handed catch at short cover by Nimanka. Young Ashwin Sureshan bowled great line & length and was rewarded with a pair of wickets. This brought South Woodford wicket keeper to the crease and the art of blocking was taken to a new level - to the extent that even easy singles were being turned down to minimise the risk of a run-out.

Yash took one more to a catch behind and hit middle stump with another to give Parks hope. Amar Desai managed to remove the keeper, and Kaj Skandamoorthy took an excellent caught and bowled with his first ball. As Parks rung the changes Sachin came in to bowl and removed one more.

With the last pair at the crease and just 2 overs left Parks set even more attacking fields but to no avail. South Woodford posted 127 for 9 and there was talk of them "celebrating" achieving a draw with a jug........

Parks may need to re-think tactics to guarantee win points rather than chasing glory by batting first in future timed games and failing to bowl out opposition that is intent on blocking for a draw. This one was very much a case of "close but no cigar".

Next week Parks 5s are away again to Wansteads 6thXI.
