Goresbrook 3rd v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 5th XI on Sat 05 Jun 2021 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Parks 5s travelled to the May & Baker ground in Dagenham to face Goresbrooks 3s in the last overs game (for now). Goresbrook were sitting 2nd in the division so this was a crucial game against a top team.

Winning the toss and putting Goresbrook into bat after the overnight rain was a great start. Yash Patel and Amanjit bowled well but without luck initially. But the introduction of the evergreen Vijay immediately reaped results with a couple of wickets to an excellent outfield catch by Sachin and a caught behind by Samuel Varnes - that was gleefully caught on camera by his dad at the boundary.

Syed bowled an absolute peach of an inswinger to clip the off-bail of the new batsman to remove him for a golden duck. Kaj then came on to weave some magic and bowled a handful of leggies and then a wrong-un that completely deceived Goresbrooks experienced skipper/keeper to hit the woodwork. Throughout all this Goresbrooks experienced opener Andrew Livett carefully accumulated runs with no risks. he was eventually run-out of the penultimate delivery of the innings for an excellent 90.

Kaj snapped up another removing a dangerous youngster thanks to an excellent catch from Amanjit and Sam took a phenomenal low catch off an inside edge of Syed's bowling to take the 7th wicket. Goresbrook finished on 160 for 7 off their full 40 overs.

the new young opening partnership of Nikhil and Samuel started promisingly with a flurry of boundaries, but unfortunately Nikhil perished quickly for 4 and Samuel followed a little later for 16. Nikhith at 3 fell to an excellent C&B bringing together Sachin Fing and Bal Diocee at the crease. Sachin batted patiently and Bal somewhat impatiently - falling to a catch for 9 after surviving 2 or 3 dropped catches. Amanjit joined Sachin and added a quick 10 runs before being caught behind - bringing Vijay to the crease in good batting form. Vijay increased the intensity pushing quick singles and 2s. Sachin eventually fell for a well compiled 30 that had been the backbone of the innings, bringing Yash to the party.

At this point the game was well balanced but a few lusty blows from Vijay and Yash to bad deliveries put the result beyond any doubt. Vijay finished on 45 not out adding to his earlier contribution of 2 wickets. Yash's quickfire 25 not out finished things off with 3 overs to spare.

An excellent result against a top side leaves Parks sitting 5th in the table as we go into the timed games. Next week we face South Woodford who are currently 8th.
