Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 121 runs

Match report For the final league game of the season Parks entertained Shelfield on a grey but dry day at Oakfield. Parks skipper won the toss and elected to bat first. Parks openers Cheatan Patel and Santron Divaharan put on a steady start against a disciplined bowling attack. Parks kept the scoring rate close to 5 an over but lost wickets on regular intervals. Number six bat Maran Mariyathas (71) and number nine bat Anuj Tewari (32) batted well to complete the innings at 217-9 after 40 overs. Other notable contributions came from Chetan (22), Vijay (23), Santron (16) and colt Praven (15). For Shenfield young James MacCallum bowled well with pace and picked up 3 wickets.

In reply, once again the veteran opening bowling attack of Nav Kalley and Sachin Arora proved too strong for the opposition who found themselves 48-5 after the initial 16 overs. Nav in particular bowled well to pick up 4 for 38 in his 8 overs. One of Nav’s wicket came from a brilliant one handed catch at square leg by Anuj Tewari. In the end Shenfield was bowled out for 96 and Parks won by 121 runs.

Parks started their campaign this season with the aim to get promoted but finished a respectable 4th in the league. Lots of positives to take away from this season especially the colts who came in and performed well at this level. Now it is time to take a break and then reflect and regroup over the winter to plan the campaign again for next season. With the experienced seniors already onboard and the promising young talent coming through the ranks, the future of the 4th team is looking very bright.
