Match report Parks entertained Walthamstow 4th Xl on a grey, humid but dry day at Oakfield. Parks won the toss and elected bat first with the view to post a defendable total on a good batting track.

Parks opening batsmen Bhavik Trivedi (31) and Chetan Patel (21) continued their good form and posted a 67 runs partnership for the first wicket. After 43 overs, Parkes declared their innings at 221-6. The bulk of the runs came from the number 4 batsman Nikhith Poddutoori, who played his best innings yet for parks and went on to score 82* which included 10 boundaries and a six.

In reply, Walthamstow batmen came out firing from all cylinders and went on the attack from ball one. Especially opener Mateen MIrza Abbas who was dropped at 35, played a brutal innings to score a 88 in no time to give the opposition a good chance to chase the rest of the required runs easily.

On a flat track, Parks fielding wasn’t simply not up to the usual standard against a strong opposition. The bowling was erratic with 39 extras being conceded and the catching was a shocker with 6 chances went down begging. The one ray of sunshine on otherwise a day to forget in the field was young Colt Praven Sureshan on debut bowled exceptionally well and grabbed the only 2 wickets to fall in the 2nd innings (6-0-37-2). A tall leg spinner, a rare commodity and one to watch for the future.

In the end, Walthamstow cruised to victory with 16 overs to spare. Parks are now 4th in the league table, just 6 points behind the leaders Upminster. The fight at the top of the table is hotting up and every match counts from this point forward if we want to challenge the top spot.
