Match report Parks entertained Upminster 5ths for the first league match of the season. Winning the toss, Parks skipper Shanks did not hesitate to invite the opposition to bat on a damp and windy day. Match was reduced to 35 overs per side due to bad weather.

Parks opened the attack with the regular opener Shankar and returning seamer Akhil Patel. Shankar as usual kept the runs down from one end giving away only 18 runs in 7 overs. On his first match in few years Akhil started cautiously and quickly found his rhythm and bowled well towards the end of his spell to grab 3 top order wickets (7 Overs 32 for 3) and helped himself to some valuable points on the Fantasy League!

Compared to the previous weeks, Parks showed a much-improved fielding display which meant the opposition struggled to score freely and ended their innings with 137 -3 after 35 overs. Follow up bowlers Syed (6 overs 14 runs), Kaj (4 overs - 26 runs) and Maran (6 overs - 27 runs) bowled well to keep the run rate down. Alex Bottoms top scored for Upminster with 48 not out.

In the absence of the regular openers, Parks opened the chase with Keerthi ‘Kit-Kat’ Thangavel and the 'vintage veteran’ Vijay Vijayanathan. With the usual 4ths 'fearless cricket' approach, the openers took the attack to the bowlers from the get go and reached 48 for no loss at the 8th over. After providing a great start VJ departed for a quick fire 20. In came Fazan at number 3 and showed why he has earned that spot by playing a measured innings scoring 30 not-out. However, it was Keerthi who stole the show with some blistering attack and went on to score 69 not out and in the process winning the match with 9 overs to spare. Keerthi - a bargain at £4.5m for the Fantasy league and it is fair to assume his value will not stay low for too long !

This was a convincing win for 4ths given the last-minute changes to the team structure. A much harder challenge is expected next week when we visit Ardleigh Green and Havering-Atte-Bower 3rd XI.
