Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 3rd XI v Upminster 4th on Sat 15 May 2021 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost by 8 Wickets

Match report After winning both pre-season friendlies and having the first league game abandoned due to the weather, Oakfield wanted to kick start their season with a win at home to Upminster.

With the weather bleak and pitch wet, the toss was always going to be an important one to win. After winning both previous, the skipper was confident to make it 3 out of 3 which unfortunately wasn’t to be, and Upminster won the toss and put the hosts into bat.

It was a difficult start losing inform batsmen Alan Bouquet cheaply after getting out LBW. Teerath Diocee started to tick the runs along with a lovely six straight down the ground but also got out on 22. Another quick wicket went by and with OPCC 52-3, Jamie Gordon came in and himself & Luke Coates tried to stick around and grind out some runs on what was a difficult pitch to bat on. Nearly making it to drinks and pushing the run rate along with a couple well hit boundaries Jamie was bowled by an excellent delivery.

Luke stuck around for a bit longer continuing to play some nice shots before getting out himself on 26 and after this Oakfield couldn’t get a partnership going and were all out for 113 from 32.1 overs. It was critical to try and stay out there for the full 40 overs and get more runs on the board, but it wasn’t to be.

Defending 113 was always going to be difficult but we always remained positive and was hoping the pitch would deteriorate. Unfortunately, it was quite the opposite, the pitch improved as the day went on and Upminster were looking comfortable in the chase. Both opening bowlers Kabir & Jigar both bowled very well keeping it tight, but the breakthrough wicket didn’t come until Ibrahim came into the bowling attack and got one of the openers out with a good catch from Anuj Tewari. Shortly after, Ibrahim struck again bowling their number 3 batsmen and Oakfield started to believe.

Unfortunately, that’s all Oakfield could manage and fair play to Upminster, they managed the chase very well and won with 12 overs to spare.

Not the start we would have hoped for, but we move onto next week and aim our first win of the season.
