After a delayed start to the league season due to the postponed 1st match, O Parks were determined to get the game on despite the inclement weather. The ground looked splendid, but the rain over the previous week meant that the wicket was damp, which made winning the toss essential. Unfortunately, Markatis, lost the toss and O Parks were inserted to bat. Brathwaite & A Khan opened and put on a solid opening partnership of 40 in 10 overs. Lots of short singles and twos put pressure on the fielding side. However, the departure of Khan(11), sparked a mini collapse with Brathwaite(18), Handa(9) and Ali(4) going in quick succession. Arora & Mann then set about rebuilding the innings, but some tight bowling by Shenfield slowed the scoring rate. Arora(13) played well before being out to one that stopped on him. Sarankan(6) joined Mann and struggled on the difficult wicket before departing. Markatis(7) & Patel(4) came in near the end to try to up the tempo. Mann, however, battled, right to the end scoring a hard earned 31*. Ravel was run out 3 in the chase for a better total. O Parks were probably 50 runs short and had to bowl well to avoid defeat.
Shenfield started confidently putting away any stray deliveries. Nav and Ali, adjusted their lines and were unlucky not to give O Parks an early break-through. Nav (1-24) eventually struck, bowling the opener. Ali (0-13) was replaced by Ravel. Ravel found it difficult to get right line and length and Shenfield punished anything that was dropped short. Ravel eventually, got into the groove, bowling his last 3 overs for 1 run. Patel at the other end bowled some beauties, but his lack of control let him down and he finished with (1-42). Mann (0-12) & Sarankan(1-8) came on near the end, but it was too late by then. Shenfield took advantage of loose deliveries and won the game in the 31st over.
Must learn lessons from this defeat, but had we won the toss it could have been a different story
