Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 23 runs

Match report This Saturday was much like most Saturdays this season. A start delayed by rain meant that each side had 30 overs to bat. Wickford won the toss and elected to bat first. They started to dominate with the bat and Parks found it hard to make the breakthrough. In his last game of the season for Parks, Ravi Teja (6-0-29-1) was the pick of the bowlers. He bowled with control and varied his pace well. In conditions that were tricky for a spin bowler he made it look easy. Wickford finished on 186 for 8 off their 30 overs. This is something Parks believed they could chase down and close the gap between themselves and Wickford.

The chase didn’t get off to a good start with Parks finding themselves 15 for 3 off just 6 overs. But a rebuild between skipper Paran Kalley (33) and Ravi (66) brought Parks back into the game needing 80 runs off just 60 balls. But losing two set batsmen in the space of 3 overs immediately brought Wickford back into the contest. No other batsmen other than Anujan Thiru (24*) was able to put the pressure on Wickford and losing wickets at regular stages didn’t make anything easier for the Parks batsmen. Parks were bowled out for 163 with 9 balls to spare. This now puts Wickford 40 points clear of Parks in third with two games to go. The boys now go away to Leigh on Sea next week hoping to get a win on the board.
