Southend on Sea & EMT v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 24 Jul 2021 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 40 runs.

Match report After last weeks terrible defeat to Gidea Park and Romford, Parks needed to bounce back this week and get some points on the board. Parks lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a used pitch that looked like it would offer a lot to the spinners later on. Parks lost a wicket in the first over and Southend on Sea dominated the early proceedings of the game. They bowled good tight lines and with the bounce in the pitch being unpredictable, it wasn't an easy pitch to bat on. At 36 for 3 this brought skipper Paran Kalley (47) to the crease to bat with Paresh Kalley (76). Paresh opened the innings and batted so well, his drives down the ground were absolutely glorious and it was an innings that was well overdue from him. Paran came in and scored quickly for his 47, both batsmen putting the pressure back onto the bowlers and when Paran was out the score was 134 for 4 and the two Kalley boys put on 98 runs off just 15 overs. With plenty of overs left Parks were looking to go onto the attack and get well past 200 which wouldn't have been an easy chase. However, the next 3 batsmen all got ducks and Parks went from 134 for 4 to 161 all out. Parks lost 6 wickets in 9 overs. To only get 161 is a bit disappointing given the platform that the lower order had, but, this was still a score that Parks felt was defendable and with 4 spinners in the team, Parks were confident.

Parks started the second innings off well getting 3 wickets inside the first 12 overs. Anujan Thiru (8-1-25-2) bowled well, he got the ball to nip back into the batsmen and varied his pace really well. He picked up the crucial wicket of the Southend captain who is the second leading run scorer in the league. He was well partnered with Selvam Ramasamy (12-4-28-4), he picked up one wicket in his opening spell but then was brought back later on and blew the tail away. He executed his yorkers brilliantly and the lower order had no idea how to play him and keep him out. Ravi Raval. (9.4-4-30-4) was playing his first game in a few weeks, he was getting the ball to absolutely rag and was unplayable on that wicket. He bowled with good pace and on another day could've had 5 wickets. This was a good win for Parks the first 25 point win of the season, the boys now look ahead to Harlow Town at home next week.
