Match report The Parks U13 A started their season with the tough test of playing Wanstead U13 A in The Metropolitan Essex Indoor League Division 1. The Parks captain Shane Vamadevan went for the toss with the opposition captain. Shane tossed and the opposition captain called tails, and tails it was. Wanstead had elected to put the Parks into bat.
The Parks openers Sharukh Khan and Zan Hussain walked out to the middle and provided the parks with an explosive start with an array of beautiful stroke play giving the Parks 29-0 from the first three overs. Sharukh, looking in good touch got out after a faint edge carried through to the keeper for nine. In came Shane at number three. Shane had got off to a slow start with only 3 runs off 9 balls while at the other end Zan was firing all cylinders and was 2 away from retiring. Zan retired on a well made 26 (2x4s) of 16 balls and a big applause from the Parks crowd was echoing. In came the Park’s big hitter Hassan. Hassan attempted to hit a shot off his legs but missed it the ball went down leg side and a loud appeal was raised, after some conferring Hassan was unluckily given out and left the Parks in a spot of bother at 56-2 after 6.3 overs. Striding in with confidence was Taariq Bharuchi coming in at five. Shane thought enough was enough and hit a 4 to ease the pressure. On came their spinner, Taariq nudged his first ball away for three. Shane was on strike and on twelve, an over pitched ball was hit for six, then another good ball was hit for four and then another was hit for four. Three boundaries in a row put the Parks in the driving seat at 97-2 off 9 overs, Shane retired after playing a captains innings of 26 (1x6s,3x4s) off 14 balls. Anish Karavadra walked with one thing in mind ‘Hit out or get out’. The pair of Anish and Taariq had a flourish of runs at the end with Zan coming back as a retired batsman consisted of 43 runs in 3 overs. The Parks amassed 140 of their 12 overs with Taariq finishing on 18(1x4s), Anish 19*(1x6s, 1x4s) and Zan 32*.(2x4s).
The Parks walked out confidently with 140 to defend. The first over was a beautiful over from Taariq with only five coming off his over. The Second over from Hassan provided the break through when Anish caught a loose shot off the wall. A moment of pure brilliance in the field when a ball rebounded off the wall and Taariq went one way, the ball went the other way and he plucked the ball out of the air like an apple on a tree about ¾ metres of the ground gave the Parks and Anish a wicket in the fourth over, the over also only conceded only four runs. Then a direct hit from point blank range from Taariq gave the parks there third wicket. Wanstead were 72-3 after 8 overs and they needed 68 off 4 overs to secure victory. Another direct hit from Taariq gave the Parks their fourth wicket. An easy run out by Shane left Wanstead 101-5 in the last over.
