Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 39 runs

Match report On a blustery Sunday morning Ilford won the toss and decided to bat. With a little help from the Oakfield bowlers, Ilford raced to 41 after only 4 overs and a big score looked on the cards. The breakthrough came in the 8th over with a wicket for Charith Bhanu (4-0-34-1), a catch by Amanjit Singh. Batsmen 2 and 3 went on to retire having passed 30 and with new batsmen to bowl at the run rate began to slow. Amanjit (4-0-27-3) capitalised and took 3 wickets; there was also a wicket for Karandeep Bansel (4-0-24-1) as the visitors finished their 20 overs on 147 for the loss of 7 wickets.

Oakfield got off to a slow start, mainly due to some fine bowling by Ilford, the batsmen were feeling the pressure as the required run rate increased by the over; Reuben Chandy’s (10) wicket fell in the 8th over with the score on 21 and skipper Talha Raja lost his wicket soon after being on the wrong end of a dubious run out decision. Opener Andrien Amirthanayagam was still there chipping away at the score before being caught and bowled in the 14th over when on 23.  Briefly the runs began to flow with Samuel Varnes at the crease but he had to retire not out having reached 31, With 5 overs to go Oakfield needed 77 runs  to win; Zubair Raja (17*) and Charith (5*) gave it their best shot but on this occasion Oakfield came up short, finishing their 20 overs on 108 for the loss of 5 wickets, Ilford winning  by 39 runs.
