Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 6 Runs

Match report Oakfield needed to get back to winning ways following last week’s defeat, Wells won the toss and put Oakfield into bat. Runs were hard to come by; after four overs which included two maidens, there were only 4 runs on the board. Reuben Chandy (2) was bowled in the sixth over with the score on 18. Sujeev Suganthan joined Amanjit Singh at the crease and played beautifully before retiring having reached 30. Amanjit was run-out in the eleventh over for 14 which left Samuel Varnes (14) and Andrien Amirthanayagam (15) to pick up the run rate. With 3 overs to go and wickets in hand the tail sacrificed their wickets in the pursuit of runs; after 20 overs Oakfield had taken their score to 104 for the loss of 8 wickets.

An early breakthrough in the second over for Oakfield saw the two opening batsmen back in the pavilion, a run-out apiece for skipper Talha Raja and Samuel. Talha (4-0-27-1) took the third wicket, a catch behind by Samuel then Zubair Raja was brought onto bowl his spin. Zubair’s first three overs brought him 3 wickets (a catch for brother Talha, a stumping by Samuel and a clean bowled). Sujeev (2-0-4-1) bowled miserly for his wicket and was well supported by Karandeep Bansel (3-0-13-0).



With 4 overs to go Wells were clear favourites to win, with only 7 runs needed and 2 wickets in hand. Zubair had other ideas, his fourth over started with 2 dot balls, the third a catch by Amanjit and the fourth was given out lbw. A match winning performance by Zubair which saw him take 5 wickets for 23 runs in 3.4 overs, Oakfield won by 6 runs.
