Match report Both teams came to this match having won their opening fixture last Sunday. Oakfield, won the toss and elected to bat, a 46 run opening partnership ended in the twelfth over when Andrien Amirthanayagam was caught on 16. New batsman, Sujeev Suganthan (5) lasted another five overs before being given out lbw which brought skipper Talha Raja to the middle, there was some fine stroke play by both batsmen before Reuben Chandy was caught on 32.  Ably supported by Samuel Varnes (16) and Zayd Ahmed (14), Talha went on to score 29 before he became the 6th batsman out in the in the 36th over with the score on 158. The remaining batsmen put on 10 runs before the innings came to an end with 2 balls spare; Oakfield setting the hosts 169 to win.

The bowlers got off to a perfect start; a maiden from Suleman Shaheen (8-2-49-0) was followed by a wicket in the second over for Talha (8-2-22-2), the first of 3 catches by Amanjit Singh. However the batsmen recovered and soon caught up with the run rate and began forging ahead, Oakfield’s only chance was to take wickets. Sujeev (5-0-18-1), Zayd (3-0-21-2) and the economical Zubair Raja (8-0-24-2) took up the challenge. The 7th wicket fell with West Essex on 162, with the match tied on 168 Zayd took the 8th wicket, three dot balls and a run out by Zayd in the following over left Oakfield needing one more wicket for a draw and West Essex one run to win. With pressure building on the batsmen Sujeev bowled a dot ball; the 6th ball was hit and the batsmen run. The match was over with West Essex winning by 1 wicket, a close competitive match which was played in the right spirit by both teams.
