Match report On the hottest day of the year so far, we were welcomed by league leaders Goresbrook in a must win game if Parks were going to maintain their chase for promotion. Captain Subash Patel won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Opening bowlers Yashes Patel (7-0-31-0) and Thomas Varnes (6-0-27-0) did well to restrict the Goresbrook openers to under 50 in the first 12 overs with Yash taking an early wicket. From there the Goresbrook batsmen pushed on with the only other wicket being a stumping by sub keeper Jeevan off the bowling of youngster Praven (6-0-43-1). Goresbrook punished Parks late on finishing on 223 for 2 in their 40 overs.
Parks started the reply positively with injured opener Bal Diocee scoring a quick 21. After losing wickets early on a confident Mike Seemampillai came to the crease. He soon found his rhythm and started picking up vital runs even as wickets fell around him. Thomas joined Mike at the crease for 12 overs holding one end as Mike scored freely and fluently at the other surpassing 100 with shots to all parts of the ground. From the halfway stage to the end only one more wicket fell with Mike completing what seemed like an impossible run chase at one stage with enormous six over the leg side. This took him to 152*, a match winning innings consisting of 18 fours and 6 sixes.
This is an important win for Parks that keeps the pressure on the teams at the top of the table. The 5th XI should take inspiration from a wonderful individual performance and carry the positive momentum into the next game.
