Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 4th XI v South Woodford on Sat 20 Jul 2019 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 185 runs

Match report Parks 4s were at home facing bottom of the table South Woodford for this week’s fixture. It goes without saying, but despite practice and change of face in way of Maran instead of Gurmit, yet again Parks lost the toss, and were asked to bat first.

With overnight rain, the pitch was going to be tricky and the outfield slow, but opening with Bhavik Trivedi & Chetan Patel, Parks started off well, in particular Bhavik, this time fiercely guarding his leg stump, tore into the opposition bowlers from the very start and scored another well-deserved 50. Chetan started well too, cracking his trademark cut shots to anything outside his off stump, but was bowled to a very accurate opening bowler. Next in was Fazarn who took no time to unleash his exquisite drives and along with Bhavik set up a 50+ partnership before Bhavik fell to a catch at mid-wicket. There were no worries for Parks though as rest of the batsmen have been in good form and although Maran could not add much to his tally today, Gurmit’s return to form with his innings of 55, which was his second 50 in 3 matches. The fall of Maran led to a mini collapse as Parks lost Fazarn (26) and Teerath, looking rock solid but falling to a stunning slip catch, by then the score was already 200 and with good hitting from Keerthi (17) and Anuj (27), Parks finished at 243 runs from their allotted 40 overs .

In response, South Woodford struggled against the accurate opening bowling of Jigar and with Shankar back this week making an immediate impact with 4 wickets for 15 runs from his allotted 8 overs. The opposition never really recovered from the poor start. Young colt Praveen making his 4th team debut was a revelation with good flight and turn, claiming 2 wickets in the process while giving away only 6 runs, he was well supported by Anuj who took 3 for 15. Bhavik keeping wickets today did a good job, and in the field parks collectively fielded well, with the skipper taking a mile high catch (height unverified) and a BenStokish pluck from the air, leading South Woodford to finish its inning for only 58; with no batsmen getting to double figures and extras at 25 being the top scorer.

All in all an enjoyable day in the field, where the weather threatening at the start, ended up being excellent for cricket and parks still very much in the hunt for top spot. We have 2 very crucial games against Loughton and West Essex in the coming weeks to look forward to.
