Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 2nd XI v Ilford on Sat 11 May 2019 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won

Match report Parks turned up for their first league game of the season in the premiership for the first time. It didn’t start well with Parks losing the toss and being put into bat on a wet Parks wicket. With only 2 overs bowled there was a huge rain delay, this lasted up to 30 minutes and meant Parks had a maximum off 45 overs to bat. Faisal did well at the top of the order and made a hard earned 32. On a wet and damp wicket the Parks batsmen weren’t getting enough value for their shots and a couple loose shots and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. But Sahil and Jai got stuck in and put a 30 run partnership that put Parks in a comfortable position at 100 for 5. Some last minute cameos down the order and Parks found themselves finish their innings with 161 on the board and something they felt comfortable with defending.

Going into the second innings it was fair to say that Ilford had the better off the wicket that had been drying up throughout the day and looked easier to bat on as the Parks lower order went in. However, Parks got off to the perfect start with the ball with Sifth picking up a wicket on the second ball off the innings. Sifth got 2 quick wickets and Ilford found themselves 51 for 2 from 11 overs. Ravi was the pick off the bowlers with (9–3–22-4) picking up regular wickets throughout their batting order and put the pressure on Ilford. However, when Ilford found themselves 73-7, Parks found themselves in the driving seat. But, a 35 run partnership between number 5 and 9 for Ilford mean that they were slowly taking the game away from Parks. As the game progressed all results still looked possible and Parks believed they could still pick up the last 4 wickets. But when Ravi picked up his fourth and Parks needed 2 more wickets to win, the ball was back in Parks court. A blistering spell off 3 balls from Sahil (3.4–0-14-4), saw him knock the poles off twice with 2 toe crunches and Parks won their first game off the season in the PREMIERSHIP.

The boys battled hard through the game and did their best to stay with it and not let Ilford play their natural games. The boys move on to Hornchurch away next week that will be a bigger test for the team and one that they will RELISH.
