Sunday A beat Gimsdyke CC by 82 runs

Parks’ Sunday team travelled to Finchley to be entertained by a Sri Lankan non league team Gimsdyke CC. On winning the toss Parks elected to bat on a sunny muggy day. Parks opened with George Christian and ‘Sunny’ Sarbjeet Singh against a very competent bowling attack. Very quickly it was apparent the opposition was not your average Sunday team and could have rivalled our 2nd XI with quality bowling and spirited fielding from the get-go. After playing some typical attacking shots George (20 with 5 fours) departed and in came Farzan Habib at number 3, an unknown territory for him by a country mile. When Sunny (11) got bowled by the first change spinner in came the Ravi ‘silent assassin’ Teja Dwaraka and the rest is… as they say was history!
Ravi went on to play the innings of his fabulous season for Parks scoring a faultless 204* including 19 fours and 19 sixes! Yes folks, 190 was scored in 4s and 6s alone. We think he does not like running in this heat! At one point 8 fielders were manning the boundary line and he still managed to score boundaries with ease. When he could not he just hit them for sixes! Outstanding batting. Notable moment came when Ravi hit 6 sixes in one over to the opposition captain’s spin bowling. Simply remarkable and a pleasure to watch. Not so pleasurable for the exasperated fielders !
Ravi was ably supported by Farzan (29) and Janagan (28) and parks finished with a mammoth 334 for 4 after 40 overs.
In replay Gimsdyke CC came out all guns blazing and raced to 100 in the first 10 overs. With pace bowling proved ineffective in a flat dying pitch skipper VJ turned to veteran spinner Suresh Ravel who responded with the spell that broke the opposition’s back taking 4 wickets in 8 overs for 50. From that point forward the opposition struggled to find the boundary line and eventually were bowled out for 252 with 7 overs to spare. The other wickets were shared between Ravi (3), VJ (1) and George (1).
A superb win due a masterclass by one exceptional cricketer with bat and bowl. Ravi take a bow!
In the end , a very impressed opposition requested a rematch this season at our home ground.
