Match report OPCC 6th XI lost to Rainham 4th XI by 38 runs

Parkonians 6th XI travelled to Emerson Park School to play Rainham CCs 4th XI. The relentless hot weather recently meant the pitch, riddled with cracks, resembled a 5th day pitch at the WACA in Perth, Australia rather than a pitch in England! Rainham won the toss and decided to bat first.
Despite Park’s opening bowlers removing the opening batsman cheaply, Rainham slowly accumulated runs on a pitch that showed signs of uneven bounce. K Lehal played misbehaving deliveries well and managed to get 51 with support from L Smith (25) and A Stansbury (30). The Rainham batsman struggled to accelerate largely thanks to some very controlled bowling from Park’s Rashmin Patel and veteran Suresh Ravel. Rashmin only conceding 21 runs for 1 wicket off his 8 overs and Suresh conceding 23 runs for 1 wicket off his 7 overs. Rainham finished on 190 for 7 off their 40 overs.

Parks started their innings confident of chasing 190 however, the second new ball and the deteriorating pitch made batting ever more difficult with several batsman getting bowled due to balls staying low. Reuben Chandy and Captain Kumaran Ravendradas briefly steadied the innings scoring 22 and 24 respectively but after they fell victim to deliveries that stayed low, it was difficult to see how Parks would reach their target. Some lower order resistance got Parks close to the target, but they were bowled out for 151.

A disappointing loss for Parkonians but they will be optimistic about their chances of beating Rainham when they visit Parkonians in a few weeks time.
