Hutton v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 5th XI on Sat 19 May 2018 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won 82 runs

Match report Hutton 5th XI vs Oakfield Parkonians 5th XI – OPCC 5th XI won by 82 runs.

On a beautiful sunny day, Parkonians’ 5th XI travelled to the picturesque home of Hutton’s 5th XI in Mountnessing. Hutton, who were short of two players, won the toss and invited Parkonians to bat first.
On what looked a flat, sun-baked pitch, opener Bal Diocee put the Hutton bowlers under real pressure hitting a quickfire 30 of which 28 runs were boundaries. His innings ended as he was skilfully caught at cover but Park’s number 3, Umar Arbar, continued the onslaught with a similarly boundary laden innings of 23. Despite posting nearly 70 runs in the first 10 overs, the Park’s batting then collapsed from 65 for 2 to 89 for 6.

Sachin Fing (40) and Pirra Vignesvathasan (14) steadied the ship before Akhil Patel (26) put on 53 for the 8th wicket with Sachin. Their partnership brought some respectability to the final score as Parks innings closed on 185 all out after 42.4 overs with Hutton’s bowlers J Southgate and B Debenham finishing with 3 wickets each. Special mention to J Wilson and J Webster who shared 5 quite excellent catches amongst them. Parks, although relieved for the lower order recovery, knew that they may have been 40 or 50 runs short on a good batting wicket.

It did indeed look like they were as Hutton’s opening batsmen J Southgate (38) and J Wilson (17) put on 50. Nimanka De Silva and Akhil Patel bowled economically but never troubled the batsman. It was Pirra who came on and managed to break the opening partnership getting both openers out. Captain Subhash Patel also bowled with great control and clean bowled the next two batsmen. The game was in the balance and both sides were still in the game however, Nimanka returned for a second spell and his patient accurate bowling paid dividends as he blew away the Hutton lower order getting 4 wickets including clean bowling the last three batsman. With only 9 of Hutton’s batsman able to bat, they were all out for 112. A quite powerful comeback from Parks after their collapse earlier in the day. Nimanka De Silva finishing on 4-32 from his 12 overs. His best ever figures in senior and league cricket. Subhash Patel and Pirra with the other 4 wickets.

A good win for Parks. The first ever league win for the 5th XI.
