Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 88 runs

Match report Playing its last league game of the season Park’s hosted Shenfield CC. On a very green top, with overcast conditions, the opposition won the toss and asked Park’s to bat first.

Park’s were in immediate trouble loosing early wickets to some very good bowling. In the first 10 overs, Park’s had lost 3 wickets for hardly any runs on the board. Batsman 4 & 5 Gurmit Bhatia & Jigar Desai sensing the need of the hour, batted sensibly and manged to take Park’s to the drinks interval without any further loss of wickets. At drinks Park’s were 45 for 3. After the drinks interval Pak’s lost Gurmit in the 22nd over and soon after another wicket fell, leaving Park’s at precarious position at 83 for 6. At this point Park’s were hoping to get 150, which they thought would be a defendable target. However, to everyone’s delight Parks 7th, 8th & 9th wicket partnerships took Park’s to a very respectable 189 of the allocated 45 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. The stand out batting performances for the day were Vijay Vijanathan who made an excellent 50, and new boy Balasingham Nimalraj who contributed with a fine 30 N.O.

In defence, Park’s were very confident that they could defend 189. The opening bowlers Jigar Desia (7-2-12-1) & Keerti Thangaval (5-1-19-0) set the tone with some very fine bowling. However, the real stars for the day were Anuj Tewari (9-4-10-5) & Balasingham Nimalraj (5-2-13-4) who absolutely flattened the opposition batting; maybe the best bowling display for the season. As a result of this excellent bowling performance & 5 catches behind the stumps by George Christian, Shenfield were bowled out for 101 in the 31st over.

Park’s finish the league season at a very respectable 4th, a good achievement considering it’s their 1st year in 4th Premier. Parks Captain takes this opportunity to thank all individuals that have played for the 4ths this year, and looks forward to next year in anticipation of a strong push for promotion to Div3.
