Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI v Leigh on Sea on Sat 30 Jun 2018 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Oakfield Parks hosted Leigh on Sea in a big top of the table clash as we were third and they second. With both teams flying high and wining recently, this was a crunch match even at this stage of the season. Leigh on Sea won the toss and rightly chose to bat on a perfect day, with a good looking pitch and glass outfield.

However, despite conditions looking perfect for a big total the Parks bowling responded to pile the pressure on Leigh on Sea. Returning Anujan Thiru scalped 2 early wickets extracting early swing including the in form wicket of J Edwards to castle him with a beauty. He was aided of course by the ever accurate Selvam Ramasamy who strangled the runs up top. This meant we grabbed 3 wickets with the new cherry and set things perfectly for the Parks dangerous spin attack to cause problems. This is what happened on a pitch offering turn, as Ravi Teja bowled a mesmeric spell of leg spin to grab 3 wickets for only 22 runs, as he bamboozled the Leigh on Sea batsman to strike regularly. This left Leigh struggling on 104-7, however credit to the Leigh tail which wagged as they finally took advantage of the good conditions with I McDonald at number 8 scoring a great 54 not out to get Leigh to 202 but they were all out in the end for 202 in 43.3 overs. Thus on a great track with a rocket outfield this was seemingly below par but of course the runs still needed getting and they had put a competitive total on the board. The only black mark for the Parks unit were the multiple simple catches that went down in a very disappointing catching display.

Parks went in to bat and soon were off to a flyer. Dhruv Patel played an explosive innings opening the batting smashing 57 of 52 balls, with some serious thumps, in particular his trade mark pull shot was unleashed to full effect. A great innings from Dhruv to ensure we got of to a great quick start and make sure no jitters occurred in the chase. Dhruv is maturing every week in to a better player as the runs keep coming. The other main contributor was Ubaid Kiani who converted his recent good form in to a significant innings of substance to score a sparkling 99 not out of 102 balls. This was a mixture of crisp strokes and good batsmanship to see the side home, as the most pleasing aspect was being there at the end to ensure the team get the win. With the opposition demoralised by Dhruv and Kiani piling on the runs, we registered in the end an emphatic win by 7 wickets. A brilliant batting display to clinically score the runs in only 32.3 overs.

Thus this was parks 5th win in a row. It was also the 4th win a row which can only be described as a thrashing of the opposition. With this powerful performance we beat the second placed team and jumped in to second place ourselves and a promotion slot. It’s a long season and a long way to go but still good to arrive in the top 2. We now travel to Harlow next week hoping to make it 6 wins in a row and continue the winning run.
