Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 32 runs

Match report OPCC 5thXI last faced Galleywood 4s back in 2015 with a decent win and hoped to repeat this in the return match at Hainault Recreation Ground.

The heavy rain on Friday meant that the pitch and outfield was slow - making the toss very important. OPCC skipper Subhash Patel lost the toss and was asked to bat first by Galleywoods skipper Steve Dickson.

As anticipated - batting was very difficult and accurate bowling from Galleywoods opening and first change bowlers accounted for all of OPCCs first 5 cheaply with only Shahid Khan reaching double figures. Jigar Desai was then joined by Nimanka DeSilva to give a bit of a recovery scoring 39 and 23 respectively at a good rate. The lower order was not able to add too much more, but having reached 121 all out from 33 off the allotted 35 overs, OPCC were confident of being able to defend this low total on a pitch that was still difficult to bat on.

Galleywoods response started poorly with the first 3 falling cheaply and struggling to score. The youngsters Karan and Saajan Bansel bowled beautifully to keep things extremely tight and were hugely unlucky to not take wickets - but the scoreboard pressure they created allowed Nimanka to take 3 wickets and Jigar 2 with stand in keeper Bal Diocee taking a couple of sharp catches off their rapid bowling. The middle order was ripped out by the ever dependable Shahid Khan taking 3 scalps with his beautifully controlled miserly spin bowling. One stumping appeal was denied as the square umpire was "distracted", but Shahid responded by bowling him a couple of balls later. Tariq Jameel put aside his disappointment at being given out LBW when batting by taking the wicket of the skipper.

The only resistance came from young Brace who bated attackingly yet solidly to reach an unbeaten 36 running out of partners as OPCC became wise that he must be deprived of strike so that wickets could be taken at the other end. It was all over in 31.4 overs with the reply reaching 89 all out.

A convincing first win in 2017 for the OPCC 5th XI defending a low total. Hopefully we can build on this in future weeks.
