Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 144 runs

Match report OPCC 4th & 5th combined playing Hornchurch Athletic 3rd team, was always going to be tough match, and so it turned out to be.

Winning the toss, Hornchurch Athletic elected to bat first, which was not exactly what OPCC wanted, as we had to start with 10 players for the first 90 minutes of the match. OPCC opening bowlers showed that they were playing the first match of the season with some wayward and short bowling, which Hornchurch Athletic took full advantage of, with the opening combination bringing up the first 50 in 6 overs. First change was OPCC colt Sajan Bansal (5-0-25-1), who managed to break the opening partnership by removing the very dangerous opposition captain for a well made 62. After this, there was some excellent bowling by Bhavik Trivedi (5-0-30-2), Shahid Khan (8-0-38-4), and George Christian (5-0-25-2), enabling OPCC to take regular wickets and bring OPCC right back into the game. However, a substantial last wicket partnership between a regular 1st team player for Hornchurch Athletic & a talented young colt enabled Hornchurch Athletic to get to 269 of the allotted 40 overs.

In reply OPCC lost regular wickets and never looked like making a credible chase. OPCC only managed 125 of 25 overs. However, it was heartening to see OPCC colt Rohitraj Ananeraj opening the innings and make a good 17 and an excellent 38 from Chetan Patel lower down the innings.

Overall a poor first day in the office, but the captain is confident that by the time the league fixtures start, the players will be ready to face the challenges of the long season ahead.
