Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 158 runs

Match report The last match of the season, with Parks needing 25 points for guaranteed promotion. Captain Gurmit Bhatia winning a crucial toss, and elected to bat first.

Parks opened with George Christian & Sarankan Skandamoorthy. Both openers played with caution but unfortunately George departed in the 4th over for 4, and in the 8 over Maran Mariyathas departed for 8. Next in Gobichandru Jeevakumar made a quick fire 20 and quickly afterwards Parks lost Sarankan for 15. At this point Parks were in some trouble. Fortunately Adam Goldman & Gurmit Bhatia were able to rebuild the innings, with both batsmen contributing with 23 & 19 respectively. With still some more consolidation required Chetan Patel & Pranav Khetia played superbly, being cautious but at the same time punishing every loose ball. Parks lost Pranav for 40, and Chetan remained not out on a superb 52. Late contributions from Vijay (16) and Abdul Usman (12) enabled Parks captain the luxury to declare on 237/8 in the 41st over.

In reply Brentwood were bowled out for 79 in the 21st over. The wickets to fall were shared between the 4 bowlers used on the day, with the pick of the bowlers being Abdul Usman (7-0-20-4) who for the 2nd consecutive week bowled with control, pace and late swing, a deadly combination indeed. Senior Parkonian Manicks Shanker picking up his 20th league wicket of the campaign (4-0-18-1), Gobi (5.1-0-18-3) and fit again Sarankan (4-1-25-2) helping Parks to register a 158 run victory, and more crucially 25 points and promotion.

It’s been a fantastic campaign with contributions by all squad players. For the time being Parks can take a well-deserved rest over the winter, and return back refreshed for an equally good campaign next year.
