Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 101 runs

Match report Parks entered this game against top side Belhus needing a win to stay in the hunt for promotion. Parks lost the toss and were put in to bat on what was a very difficult pitch to bat. The outfield was long and slow, and the bounce uneven so that playing forceful shots was very risky.

Parks chose to try and see off the new ball and hope that conditions got easier, and with Dan Shalom going well with 34, this looked to be paying off. A quick flurry of wickets meant that Parks sunk to 65/5 however, and it was left to Gurmeet Bhatia (49*) and Alan Bouquet (39*) to grind out a respectable total that they could bowl at. Reaching 167/5 off their 45 overs Parks felt they were more than in with a shout of victory.

The second innings batting proved how difficult the conditions really were. Abdul Usmen bowled well to pick up 2 wickets early on, with Nav Kalley also picking up the crucial wicket of captain Richard Waters. Matt Holland then produced a superb piece of fielding to run out J Thomas, and Parks had Belhus 17/4.

There was never really any way back, but any thoughts of a rally were quickly snuffed out when U15 Jaydeep Dhuria came on. He picked up 5/10 in his 6 overs to close out the game, with Nav coming back to take the last wicket. It means Parks end up with a thumping 101 run win against the top team, but are still only in 3rd place with Hadleigh also getting a win to keep them in 2nd place.

This saturday will be the crunch game when Hadleigh visit Oakfield for a promotion showdown. If Parks put in a performance like this, promotion should be theirs for the taking.
