Match report On an overcast day, Oakfield Parkonians lost the toss and were put into bat in their first league game of the season against West Essex.
It was not the best start for Parks as Sarankan Skandamoorthy was out LBW in the second over for a duck. Vikram Handa in early at 3 played a great knock, racing to 50 in no time but was given out LBW shortly after. Yet again it was Neil Braithwaite with another impressive display of 130 not out, well supported by Rifan (56 not out) carried Parks up to 289-4 of 45 overs when captain Harry Markatis decided to declare.
After tea West Essex made a flying start to their innings racing to 140-2 off the first 20 overs with both openers M. Ali (50) and H. Khan (78) surpassing 50 in no time. Parks fought back well, managing to take 7 wickets as West Essex knocked the winning runs off with 4 overs remaining.
In hindsight, the early declaration may have been the difference between winning and losing as parks had to give 5 overs back. However, with a great score on the board Parks must do better in the field to back up their batsman’s hard work.
Nevertheless, Parks took 11 points from the game and is a good platform to build on for next week.
